Parish Council


Cathedral Parish Council is comprised of various committee chair, committee members, deacons and priests. The committees that make up the parish council perform many diverse functions and offer parish wide events and activities. There are non-elected committees that are a part of the Parish Council.  The pastor appoints these committees and their chair.  Persons interested in serving or volunteering for these committees need to contact the Cathedral Office or if you are interested in serving as a volunteer, please contact any of the committee chairs listed below.

Communications

The primary task for the communications committee is to keep parishioners informed of significant parish news, activities, and projects; to solicit support for programs and projects, to invite parishioners to become more involved in diverse parish activities, and to recognize parishioners for their services. This committee publishes the parish newsletter, The Cathedral Courier .

Education and Formation
Chair, Betsy Burrus
This committee promotes spiritual and ministry formation education programs. Included in these programs are the Adult Education classes and the
Sunday nursery . This committee also involves, in cooperation with religious education directors Suzanne Southworth and Lisa Clark, the Cathedral Religious Education Opportunity classes and Youth Group high school program.

Emmaus Small Faith Communities

This committee organizes the Cathedral parish small faith communities. The focus of these faith communities is scripture reflection and emphasis on living the gospel. Groups meet for 6 weeks during Lent and before Advent. Among the programs that benefit from the service projects of the Emmaus groups include Project Reflect and the Hermitages.

Family Life

This committee is responsible for welcoming new members into the parish, promoting parish family activities such as the
Sunday coffee and doughnut receptions and other activities. The committee also writes a prayer letter to each engaged couple from the Cathedral who participates in the Diocesan Engaged Couples Weekend.

Haiti Mission

The mission of the Haiti Mission is to lend a helping hand both spiritually and financially to improve the education and health of the parishioners of St. John the Baptist parish in LaVallee, Haiti and to enhance their way of life while maintaining their culture. The committee organizes quarterly special collections, a Haiti Dinner and an annual visit by Fr. Pardo from Haiti. Committees include Education, Haiti Children's Fund and Healthcare. Two or three mission trips are sent each year to Haiti, including a Medical Mission.

Parish wide activities like the annual picnic, RCIA receptions and other activities are conducted by the parish life committee.

Knights of Columbus

Social Action

This committee is responsible for several programs impacting social justice such as a summer Loaves and Fishes program to feed the hungry, a volunteer effort to help move St. Vincent de Paul School into a new building and a Cathedral collection for "Welcome to America" baskets for Catholic Charities Refugee and Immigration Services.

Special Commission

Mark and Bobbie O'Neil
Select chair of existing committees of the Parish Council serve on this committee. The pastor appoints the members. The
Spring Fest, Octoberfest, Cathedral Spaghetti Dinner, Festival of Ministries , Advent Wreath Workshop, visitation and support for bereaved parishioners are planned and organized by this committee.

Worship and Spiritual Life

The gift bearer program, the
Liturgy of the Word for Children , parish retreats, days of recollection, monthly adoration, the prayer network and other programs to promote spiritual development are managed by this committee.
