The duties of an acolyte include lighting the candles on the altar, carrying them in procession; and preparing wine and water for the sacrifice of the Mass.  An acolyte also assists the sacred ministers at the Mass and other public services of the Church. The position of acolyte is open to any young man or woman of the Cathedral parish. They should be of the fourth grade to high school age range. Each candidate will receive specific training before serving at mass.
